I had the pleasure of being infected by the Vundo virus. It’s a real pain in the apple to remove. The problem with modern viruses/malware is they hook into your system and cannot be deleted or haulted. This poses a problem for virus scanners when it comes to removing them from your system. With that being said, I tried following virus/malware scanners to remove Vundo.
- McAfee (failed)
- Nortons (failed)
- AVG (failed)
- Ad-Aware (failed)
- OSAM (success!)
I spent about 3 hours before I came across OSAM. I wish I had found it right away! Including the installation of their software it took about 5 minutes to cure my system. That sure beats 3 hours. They also had a nice write-up on how to remove Vundo.
I must note that all of the virus scanners found the virus but, with the exception of OSAM, none of them were successful in removing it.
